The brand was specifically created for the Canadian market by B&J (Buegeleisen & Jacobson), a major musical instrument distributor based in New York and Toronto. Dégas instruments were known for offering high-quality craftsmanship at a more accessible price point compared to major American counterparts.

Most Dégas guitars were manufactured in Japan during the heyday of the Japanese guitar-making era, often produced in the renowned Matsumoku or Terada factories which also handled production for many famous labels. Later models were occasionally sourced from South Korean manufacturers. Because the brand was a house label for a distributor rather than a standalone manufacturer, production ceased when the marketplace shifted, and the brand is now considered a vintage or legacy name in the Canadian music scene.
