About Fossify

Fossify is an open-source movement and software suite established to maintain and advance several popular mobile applications that were previously part of the 'Simple Mobile Tools' ecosystem. Following the acquisition of the original suite by a monetization-focused company, the community initiated Fossify to preserve the 'Free and Open Source Software' (FOSS) integrity of these tools.

Origin and Philosophy

Fossify originated in late 2023 as a direct response to the community's desire for privacy-respecting, ad-free, and open-source utility apps on Android. The project specializes in essential system utilities like galleries, calendars, and file managers. Because it is a community-driven project, development and contributions come from a global network of volunteers rather than a single corporate office.

Ownership and Development

As an open-source project, Fossify is collectively managed by its maintainers and contributors. It is not owned by a traditional multinational corporation, but rather exists as a community initiative hosted on platforms like GitHub. The primary mission is to ensure that mobile users have access to fundamental tools that are free from tracking, intrusive permissions, and commercial exploitation.
