Neutrogena is a globally recognized skincare brand originally founded in the United States. Its history dates back to 1930 when Emanuel Stolaroff started a small specialty cosmetic company called Natone. The brand's major breakthrough occurred in 1954 when Stolaroff discovered a non-irritating, clear soap manufactured in Belgium, which he imported and marketed as Neutrogena. This success eventually led to the company being renamed Neutrogena Corporation.
Over the decades, the brand became a staple in dermatological skincare, known for its science-based approach to cleansers, sunscreens, and anti-aging products. In 1994, it was acquired by Johnson & Johnson, which significantly expanded its global reach. Recently, as part of a corporate restructuring, Neutrogena became part of Kenvue, an independent consumer health company spun off from Johnson & Johnson.
While the brand originated in California, manufacturing today occurs in various locations around the world to serve international markets, including facilities in North America, Europe, and Asia. The brand remains headquartered in the United States under the umbrella of Kenvue Inc.
