Milka is one of the world's most recognizable chocolate brands, best known for its distinctive lilac-colored packaging and the 'Milka Cow.' The brand's history dates back to 1901 when it was first registered in Switzerland by Philippe Suchard. The name 'Milka' is a portmanteau of the German words for its primary ingredients: Milch (milk) and Kakao (cocoa).

Today, while the brand maintains its Swiss heritage and Alpine imagery, it is owned by the American multinational snack food conglomerate Mondelēz International. Production for the European market is heavily concentrated in Lörrach, Germany, which has been a primary manufacturing site for decades, though it is also produced in several other European countries to meet global demand. Despite the change in ownership over the years, Milka continues to market itself through the quality of its Alpine milk and its long-standing confectionery tradition.
