Elmex is a high-performance brand of oral hygiene products that originated in Switzerland. It was first developed in 1962 by GABA (Goldene Apotheke Basel), a Swiss pharmaceutical company known for its research into fluoride's benefits for dental health. Elmex is particularly famous for introducing amine fluoride, which provides deep protection against cavities and tooth decay.
In 2004, the GABA Group was acquired by the American multinational Colgate-Palmolive. While the brand remains deeply rooted in Swiss and German pharmaceutical traditions, its manufacturing has been integrated into Colgate-Palmolive’s global supply chain. Most Elmex products for the European market are currently manufactured in Poland, though logistics and distribution are handled through various regional subsidiaries. Today, Elmex remains a leader in specialized oral care, frequently recommended by dentists across Europe for enamel protection and sensitive teeth.
