Venco is a quintessential Dutch brand specializing in licorice, or 'drop', which is a deeply rooted snack culture in the Netherlands. Founded in 1878 by Gerrit van Voornveld in Amsterdam, the brand name 'Venco' is an abbreviation of 'Van Voornveld En CO'.
Starting from a small workshop in the Amsterdam city center, it grew to become one of the most recognizable candy brands in the country. Ownership of the brand shifted during the late 20th century as the confectionery market consolidated. For many years, it was part of Leaf Holland, which merged with the Swedish company Cloetta in 2012. Today, Cloetta continues to manage the brand, maintaining high standards of Dutch licorice production primarily within regional facilities in the Netherlands. Venco Muntendrop (Coin Licorice) is particularly famous for its legal coin-inspired shape and firm, sweet flavor profile.
