Bolletje is a quintessential Dutch brand with a history dating back to 1867, when the Ter Beek family opened a small bakery in Almelo. The brand became nationally famous for its 'beschuit' (rusk), particularly after the introduction of its iconic branding and the innovative 'inkeping' (notch) that makes the fragile rusks easier to remove from their cylindrical packaging.
Today, Bolletje is a household name in the Netherlands, producing a wide variety of crackers, crispbreads, and seasonal treats like kruidnoten. The brand remains deeply rooted in its Twente heritage. While ownership transitioned from the founding family to private equity and later to a larger food group, manufacturing remains primarily focused in Dutch facilities in Almelo and Heerde to maintain the traditional quality and texture associated with the brand name.
