Brand History and Origins

Method was founded in 2000 in San Francisco, California, by Eric Ryan and Adam Lowry. The brand was established with a focus on creating cleaning products that were both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly, prioritizing biodegradable ingredients and stylish packaging. This disruptive approach transformed the liquid soap and cleaning aisle by moving away from harsh chemicals and traditional utility branding.

Manufacturing and Global Reach

Method products are primarily manufactured in the United States, most notably at the South Side Soapbox factory in Chicago. This facility is LEED Platinum-certified and features a massive rooftop greenhouse. While US-based production serves the majority of their North American market, Method also utilizes manufacturing facilities in other regions, including Europe, to support international distribution with a focus on reducing carbon footprints.

Ownership Evolution

In 2012, Method was acquired by Ecover, a Belgian manufacturer of ecological cleaning products. Both brands were later acquired in 2017 by SC Johnson, a major American multinational company. Under SC Johnson's stewardship, Method continues to operate as a premium sustainable brand, benefiting from the global supply chain and distribution network of its parent company while maintaining its distinct identity as a pioneer in green cleaning.
