Millet outdoor technical equipment

Millet is a heritage brand synonymous with mountaineering and high-alpine exploration. Founded in France in 1921, the brand initially specialized in canvas shopping bags before pivoting to technical backpacks that supported the first successful ascent of an 8,000-meter peak, Annapurna.

Today, Millet is recognized as a premium technical brand for climbing, skiing, and trekking. While the brand's design and engineering hub remains in Annecy, France, its manufacturing is distributed across multiple countries including Vietnam, Tunisia, and Portugal, with some of its high-end sleeping bags still made in France.

In terms of ownership, the brand returned to its roots in 2022. After being part of the Swiss-based Calida Group for many years, Millet (along with Lafuma) was acquired by Jean-Pierre Millet—the grandson of the company's founder—together with Inspiring Sport Capital. This move brought the brand back under family-led French stewardship, focusing on high-performance gear and environmental sustainability.
