Palladium is a historic brand originally established in 1920 in Lyon, France, initially as a manufacturer of aircraft tires. Following World War II, as demand for aviation tires declined, the company repurposed its expertise in rubber and canvas to create durable footwear. In 1947, they launched the iconic Pampa boot, which became part of the uniform for the French Foreign Legion due to its ruggedness and versatility.

Over the decades, the brand evolved from a utility military supplier into a fashion staple, particularly popular in the 1990s grunge scene and contemporary urban streetwear. Today, while the design heritage remains French, manufacturing is conducted across multiple locations, primarily in Asia (such as Vietnam and China), to meet global demand.

Starting in late 2026 and moving forward, the brand remains under the stewardship of its current parent organization, ensuring the preservation of its 'urban explorer' identity. Palladium is currently owned by K-Swiss Global Brands (KSGB), which is a division of the Chinese sportswear conglomerate Xtep International Holdings Limited.
