Seabrook Sea Salted Crisps

Seabrook is a storied British crisp brand with deep roots in West Yorkshire. The company was founded in 1945 by Charles Brook in Bradford. The name 'Seabrook' famously originated from a clerical error at a photo-processing shop, where a clerk mistakenly wrote 'Seabrook' instead of 'C. Brook' on a film packet. Charles liked the name and adopted it for his business, which initially began as a fish and chip shop before diversifying into the production of potato crisps.

Throughout its history, Seabrook has been a pioneer in the UK snack market, most notably for introducing the country's first crinkle-cut crisps in the 1950s. The brand has maintained a strong regional identity, with its primary manufacturing facility located in the Princeville area of Bradford. It is well-known for using sunflower oil and being an early adopter of gluten-free certifications across its core range.

While the brand remained family-owned for seven decades, it underwent a management buyout in 2015. In October 2018, Seabrook Crisps was acquired by Calbee UK, a subsidiary of the Japanese snack giant Calbee Inc. Under Japanese ownership, the brand continues to operate from its traditional Bradford headquarters, benefiting from significant international investment to expand its production capacity while maintaining its local manufacturing heritage in Yorkshire.
