Purol is a heritage Dutch skincare brand widely recognized for its yellow ointment (Zalf), which has been a staple in Dutch households for over a century. The brand was originally established in the early 1900s by Andries Mijnhardt, a pharmacist from Utrecht, and it became famous for its restorative and protective properties for the skin.
Over the decades, the brand evolved from a local pharmaceutical product into a mainstream consumer brand. While it remains deeply rooted in the Netherlands, where its products are still manufactured, the ownership has changed hands through various corporate mergers. Today, Purol is part of the extensive portfolio of Unilever, following its acquisition of the Sara Lee House & Body Care division in 2010. It continues to be marketed primarily in the Benelux region as a trusted solution for chapped or irritated skin.
