Suunto Sports Watch

Founded in 1936 by Tuomas Vohlonen, a Finnish adventurer and champion orienteer, Suunto began with the invention of the liquid-filled field compass. For over 80 years, the brand has been a pioneer in outdoor navigation, diving computers, and precision sports watches. Suunto is deeply rooted in Finnish heritage, maintaining its headquarters and a significant manufacturing facility in Vantaa, Finland, where most of its premium devices are still handcrafted and tested under rigorous conditions.

The brand's ownership has evolved significantly over the years. In 1999, it was acquired by the Finnish sporting goods conglomerate Amer Sports. In 2019, Amer Sports was itself acquired by a consortium led by the Chinese sportswear giant Anta Sports. More recently, in 2022, Suunto was sold to Liesheng, a Chinese consumer electronics company specializing in wearable technology. Despite these shifts in high-level ownership, Suunto remains a proudly Finnish brand in its design philosophy, engineering, and primary production location.
