Typhoo Tea

Typhoo is one of the United Kingdom's most iconic tea brands, established in 1903 by John Sumner in Birmingham. Originally sold as a health remedy for indigestion, it grew to become a household staple across Britain. For much of the 20th century, it was a dominant force in the tea market, known for its distinctive packaging and 'Great British Brew' identity.

While the tea leaves themselves are sourced globally from major tea-growing regions such as Kenya, India, and Malawi, the blending and packaging historically took place at the famous Moreton factory on the Wirral. In recent years, the brand has undergone significant corporate changes, moving its production facilities to focus on a leaner supply chain within the UK.

Ownership of Typhoo has transitioned through several multinational corporations. After being owned by the Apeejay Surrendra Group (an India-based conglomerate) for many years, the brand was acquired in 2021 by Zetland Capital. The brand continues to operate as a major British tea provider, maintaining its heritage while adapting to modern consumer preferences in the global beverage market.
