Keso is a iconic Swedish brand of cottage cheese, so deeply ingrained in the local culture that the brand name is frequently used as a generic term for the product category in Sweden. The product was originally inspired by American cottage cheese after Gösta Winberg, a director at Mjölkcentralen, visited the USA in 1945. After years of development, it was officially launched in the Swedish market in 1958.

The product is manufactured in the town of Skövde, Sweden, using milk sourced from Swedish Arla farms. The brand is owned by Arla Foods, a major European dairy cooperative. Arla Foods was formed through the 2000 merger of the Swedish dairy cooperative Arla and the Danish company MD Foods. Today, it remains a farmer-owned cooperative with approximately 12,000 farmer-owners across several European countries, including Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and the UK.
