Prostokvashino Smetana

Prostokvashino is one of Russia's most iconic dairy brands, easily recognizable by its blue-and-white striped packaging and the character Matroskin the Cat from the famous Soviet animation. The brand was originally inspired by the literary works of Eduard Uspensky and launched as a commercial dairy line in the early 2000s.

For many years, the brand was a cornerstone of Danone's portfolio in Russia after their merger with Unimilk. However, following the geopolitical shifts in 2022 and 2023, the Russian assets of Danone were placed under temporary external management and eventually transitioned to new ownership structures under the H&N (Health & Nutrition) company. Today, the product is manufactured domestically in Russia at various dairy plants localized to serve the regional markets.
