Piltti was originally established in Finland in the 1950s by Huhtamäki and became a staple in Finnish households. For many years, the brand was owned by the multinational corporation Nestlé. As of late 2024 and moving into 2025/2026, the brand has been acquired by the Norwegian conglomerate Orkla, specifically under its Orkla Foods branch. Manufacturing continues to be primarily focused in Finland, particularly at the Turku factory, maintaining its local heritage while operating under Nordic corporate ownership.
