Tamron is a globally recognized Japanese manufacturer of photographic lenses, optical components, and commercial/industrial-use optics. Founded in 1950, the company established itself as a pioneer in the interchangeable lens market, notably creating the 'Adaptall' system which allowed lenses to be used across multiple camera brands.
Today, Tamron is a leader in high-performance zoom lenses for both DSLR and mirrorless systems. While its research, development, and high-end manufacturing remain centered in Japan, the majority of its mass-market lens assembly has shifted to large-scale production facilities in Vietnam and China to maintain global competitiveness. The brand is publicly traded, with Sony Corporation holding a significant minority stake, although Tamron operates as an independent entity.
