Originally created in 1895 by the company Mauxion in Berlin, it was celebrated as a high-quality dark chocolate intended for adult connoisseurs. The brand survived various industrial transitions throughout the 20th century before becoming a staple of the Stollwerck portfolio.

Today, the brand is owned by the confectionery giant Ferrero, following its acquisition of the Belgian company Baronie, which had previously acquired Stollwerck. Most of the production remains centered in Germany, maintaining its historical association with German confectionery excellence.
