Freia Bakepulver

Freia is one of Norway's most iconic brands, best known for its chocolate but also deeply rooted in the Norwegian household through various baking products like this 'Bakepulver' (baking powder). The brand was founded in 1889 by Johan Throne Holst and quickly grew into a national symbol of quality within Norway. The famous factory in Rodeløkka, Oslo, is a historical landmark, though some production has shifted over the decades.

While Freia remains a quintessential Norwegian brand in the hearts of consumers, its ownership transitioned to international hands in the early 1990s. Initially acquired by Kraft General Foods (later Kraft Foods), it is now owned by Mondelez International. Despite this global corporate ownership, many Freia products continue to be manufactured in Norway, maintaining the specific recipes and standards that have defined the brand for over a century. The baking powder is a staple in Scandinavian kitchens, often featuring the classic 'Baking Boy' logo which has been a consistent part of the packaging for generations.
