Olympus is a legendary name in the world of photography and optics, originally founded in Japan in 1919. This digital camera represents the brand's long history of innovation in the consumer electronics market, specifically within their line of compact and bridge cameras designed for high-resolution photography.
Over the decades, Olympus became a dominant force in optical engineering. However, in recent years, the company underwent a major corporate restructuring. In 2021, the Olympus Corporation completed the transfer of its imaging business to a new entity, OM Digital Solutions. Today, OM Digital Solutions continues the legacy of Olympus-branded cameras, maintaining the engineering standards while the parent Olympus Corporation focuses on medical and industrial equipment.
While the brand originated in Japan, most consumer electronics under this badge are manufactured in Southeast Asian facilities to optimize global distribution. Production is currently concentrated in Indonesia and Vietnam, following the closure of major manufacturing plants in China in late 2018.
