Originally established in 1902 in the Mendoza region of Argentina by Nicola Catena, an Italian immigrant, the brand has become synonymous with the elevation of Malbec to world-class status. The 'High Mountain Vines' series reflects the brand's pioneering research into high-altitude viticulture across different microclimates in the Andes foothills.

The wine is produced and bottled at the source in Mendoza, specifically utilizing grapes from the family's historic vineyards. Currently, the brand remains under the stewardship of the Catena family, led by Dr. Laura Catena and her father Nicolás Catena Zapata.
