Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) is a pioneering American semiconductor company. Founded in 1969 in Santa Clara, California, it began as a producer of logic chips before expanding into computer processors and graphics technology. Today, AMD is a leading designer of CPUs for personal computers and servers, as well as GPUs for gaming and high-performance computing.
While AMD is headquartered in the United States, it operates on a 'fabless' model, meaning it designs its chips in-house but outsources the actual fabrication to specialized foundries. The majority of its products are manufactured by TSMC in Taiwan and GlobalFoundries in the United States, Germany, and Singapore. Final assembly, testing, and packaging (ATP) often take place in facilities located in Malaysia, China, and Taiwan, making its production truly global.
