Max Factor is one of the most historical names in the global beauty industry, founded in 1909 by a Polish-Jewish aesthetician who became the leading makeup artist for Hollywood's Golden Age stars. The brand is credited with inventing the term 'make-up' and popularizing products like foundation and mascara for everyday consumers outside of the film industry.

Originally a family-owned business in the United States, the brand underwent several corporate transitions. It was acquired by Revlon in the early 1970s, then by Beatrice Foods, and later by Procter & Gamble in 1991. The brand underwent its most recent significant ownership change in 2016, as part of a multi-billion dollar merger where it became a cornerstone of Coty Inc.’s luxury and consumer beauty portfolio.

Today, Max Factor products are manufactured and distributed globally. While much of the product development and high-level strategy takes place in the United States and Europe, manufacturing occurs across various international facilities to support its presence in over 100 countries.
