The Body Shop is an iconic British cosmetics, skin care, and perfume brand founded in 1976 by Dame Anita Roddick in Brighton, England. The brand gained international fame for its focus on ethical consumerism and social activism, being one of the first major beauty brands to prohibit animal testing and promote fair trade practices through its Community Trade program.

Throughout its history, the brand has seen several ownership changes. It was first acquired by the French cosmetics giant L'Oréal in 2006, then sold to the Brazilian beauty group Natura & Co in 2017. In late 2023, the brand was acquired by the private equity firm Aurelius Group. Following this acquisition, the brand entered various restructuring proceedings in different markets, particularly in the UK and North America, during early 2024 to streamline operations and ensure long-term viability.

Manufacturing for the brand occurs in multiple countries, including significant production facilities in the United Kingdom and Europe, as well as global sourcing for ingredients through their ethical trade partners. Despite its ownership changes, the brand maintains its headquarters in London, keeping its British heritage central to its identity.
