In 2011, the company split into two independent entities: Motorola Solutions and Motorola Mobility. Motorola Mobility, which focuses on consumer hardware like smartphones, was acquired by Google in 2012 and subsequently sold to Lenovo in 2014. Today, Motorola products are designed in the United States, primarily at their Chicago headquarters, while manufacturing is decentralized to take advantage of global supply chains. Most assembly takes place in China, though significant regional manufacturing facilities exist in India and Brazil to serve those specific markets.
