The brand Knax was introduced in 1958 and has since become one of the most recognizable names for pickled cucumbers in Europe. These pickles are produced using local German cultivation, often processed within hours of being harvested to maintain their texture.

The brand is owned by Hengstenberg GmbH & Co. KG, a family-owned company founded in 1876 by Richard Alfried Hengstenberg in Esslingen am Neckar. To this day, the company remains independent and is managed by the fourth and fifth generations of the founding family. Manufacturing is concentrated in Germany, primarily at their facilities in Bad Friedrichshall and Fritzlar.
