Scotch Tape

Scotch is a globally recognized brand primarily known for its pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes. The brand's history began in 1925 when Richard Drew, a young engineer at 3M (Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company), invented the first masking tape. This innovation was born from a practical need in the automotive industry to help painters create clean lines on two-tone cars without damaging existing paint work.

Following the success of masking tape, Drew went on to invent Scotch Cellulose Tape in 1930, which was the world's first transparent adhesive tape. During the Great Depression, the tape became immensely popular as people used it to repair everything from books to clothing. The brand name 'Scotch' reportedly originated from a disparaging remark made by a customer regarding the amount of adhesive on early prototype tapes, which 3M later adopted and turned into an iconic mark of quality.

Today, Scotch remains a flagship brand of 3M, a diversified global technology company headquartered in Saint Paul, Minnesota. While the brand originated in the United States, manufacturing now takes place in various countries worldwide to serve global markets, including significant production facilities in the USA, Canada, and various locations across Europe and Asia.
