ENGIE is a prominent French multinational utility company that specializes in electricity generation and distribution, natural gas, and renewable energy. Its origins are deeply rooted in French industrial history, tracing back to the Universal Suez Canal Company founded in 1858. The modern entity was established through the 2008 merger of Gaz de France (GDF) and Suez, initially operating under the name GDF Suez before rebranding to ENGIE in 2015 to signify its shift toward energy transition and decarbonization.
