The Flower Farm is a Dutch brand established with a clear mission: to protect the tropical rainforest by eliminating palm oil from daily food products. Founded by Marcel van Wing, who was inspired by his firsthand experience witnessing deforestation in Indonesia, the brand replaces palm oil with sustainable alternatives like shea butter, which is harvested from wild-growing Karité trees in the African savannah rather than on cleared plantation land.
The brand's product range, including the "Smeren Zonder Palmolie" (Spread Without Palm Oil) margarine seen here, is 100% plant-based and vegan. Although it faced some early legal scrutiny regarding the boldness of its anti-palm oil marketing claims, the brand has successfully carved out a significant niche in the Dutch, Belgian, and British markets. As of 2026, the company continues to be a prominent Dutch scale-up, led by CEO Arjen van Strien and headquartered in Amsterdam, while its products are manufactured within the Netherlands to serve its growing European consumer base.
