Rompetrol is a prominent energy brand with a legacy dating back to its establishment in 1974 as the representative of the Romanian oil industry. Over the decades, it has evolved from a state-owned entity into a major multinational energy group. The brand's primary industrial footprint is centered in Romania, where it operates the Petromidia refinery—the largest and most modern facility in the country—and the Vega refinery, the only producer of bitumen and n-hexane in Romania. These sites produce a wide range of Euro 5 standard fuels, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and specialized petrochemicals like polypropylene and polyethylene.

Ownership of the brand shifted significantly in 2007 when it was acquired by the National Company KazMunayGas (KMG) of Kazakhstan. Today, the brand is managed by KMG International N.V., which is headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands, acting as a strategic platform for Kazakhstan's energy interests in Europe and the Black Sea region. The ultimate owner is the Republic of Kazakhstan through its sovereign wealth fund, Samruk-Kazyna. Rompetrol remains a vital player in the regional energy market, operating an extensive retail network of over 1,000 fuel stations across Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, and Georgia.
