Meridol is a specialized oral care brand with a clinical heritage rooted in Switzerland. The brand was originally developed by the Swiss company Gaba (Goldene Apotheke Basel), which was founded in 1683. Meridol mouthwash was first launched in 1986, followed by the toothpaste in 1995, specifically targeting gum health and gingivitis prevention through its dual-active fluoride formulation.
In 2004, the American multinational Colgate-Palmolive acquired the Gaba Group, bringing Meridol into its global portfolio. While the brand maintains its scientific identity and is often associated with Swiss and German dental standards, the manufacturing of Meridol products is conducted in various European facilities, primarily in Germany. As of 2026, the brand continues to be a core part of Colgate-Palmolive's premium oral care segment, positioned alongside other professional brands like Elmex.
