Over the decades, the brand underwent several ownership changes, transitioning from state-owned in the 1970s to private equity ownership. Most recently, the brand was a part of Perrigo Company plc's dermatocosmetics business. In July 2025, a major transaction was announced where KKR & Co. Inc. agreed to acquire ACO Hud Nordic AB, with the deal expected to finalize in early 2026. This puts ACO under the umbrella of a global investment firm specializing in consumer health platforms.

While the brand is deeply rooted in Sweden and maintains its primary research labs in Stockholm to cater to the Nordic climate, manufacturing is conducted across multiple locations in Europe to meet regional demand.
