The AH brand has a deep-rooted history in the Netherlands, dating back to 1887 when its founder, Albert Heijn, took over a small grocery store in Oostzaan. Over more than a century, it evolved from a local shop into a national powerhouse and later formed the foundation of the global retail giant Ahold. In 2016, Ahold merged with the Belgian Delhaize Group to create Ahold Delhaize, which remains the ultimate owner of the brand today. The company continues to be headquartered in Zaandam, maintaining its status as a cornerstone of Dutch retail while operating as a major international player in the food retail industry.
