Mike's Hard Lemonade is a pioneer in the 'Ready-to-Drink' (RTD) alcoholic beverage category, specifically within the flavored malt beverage segment. Originally introduced in Canada in 1996, it quickly became a staple in the North American market due to its refreshing, carbonated lemon flavor and accessible alcoholic content.
The global ownership of the brand is currently split. In the United States, the brand is owned and operated by Mark Anthony Brands, which remains an independent private company. However, for the international market outside of the United States—including Canada and more than 20 other countries—the brand was acquired by the global brewing giant Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) in 2015. This dual-ownership structure means that while the branding remains consistent, the manufacturing and distribution strategies vary significantly depending on the region.
Production typically occurs in regional breweries within the country of sale to ensure freshness and reduce logistical overhead. In Canada, production is managed by Labatt Brewing Company, a subsidiary of AB InBev, while in the U.S., Mark Anthony Brands utilizes various contract brewing facilities and its own proprietary sites.
