Weihenstephan is one of Germany's most prestigious dairy brands, with roots tracing back to the Benedictine Weihenstephan Abbey in Freising, Bavaria, founded in 725. While the historic site is also famous for the world's oldest brewery, the dairy operations became a separate entity. The Molkerei Weihenstephan (Weihenstephan Dairy) was formerly a state-operated institution before being privatized.
Since 2000, the brand has been a subsidiary of the Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller (Müller Group), a major player in the European dairy industry. Despite the ownership change, the company maintains its strong regional identity, processing raw milk primarily from Bavarian farms at its facility in Freising. The product shown is fresh milk with 3.5% fat, a staple of their 'blue line' of premium dairy products.
