Trapa is a storied Spanish chocolate brand with roots dating back to 1891 when Cistercian monks founded a chocolate factory in the San Isidro de Dueñas monastery in Palencia, Spain. Over the decades, the brand transitioned from monastic production to a modern industrial enterprise. In 1964, the monks sold the factory and its secret formulas, leading to the establishment of the official Chocolates Trapa company.

Throughout its history, the brand has been under several ownerships, including the Rumasa Group in the 1980s. In 2013, after a period of insolvency, Trapa was acquired by the Europraline group, a subsidiary of the renowned Spanish confectionery giant Grupo Lacasa. Today, Trapa is celebrated for its commitment to traditional recipes combined with modern sustainability efforts, such as removing palm oil from its products. All Trapa chocolates continue to be manufactured at their primary facility in Palencia, Spain, maintaining their heritage as a 100% Spanish-owned and produced brand.
