Klene is a quintessential Dutch brand with a rich history dating back to 1876. Founded by Johannes Coenradus Klene in an attic in Rotterdam, the company quickly became a cornerstone of the Dutch candy industry. Known as the 'Neerlandsch Eenige Echte' (Netherlands' One and Only), Klene has specialized in traditional liquorice (drop) for over 150 years.

In 1999, the brand was acquired by Van Melle, which subsequently merged with the Italian company Perfetti in 2001 to form Perfetti Van Melle. Today, Klene remains one of the most popular confectionery brands in the Netherlands, with production traditionally centered in Dutch facilities, such as the site in Hoorn. The 'Engelse Drop' (Liquorice Allsorts) variety shown is a soft, sweet mixture that continues the brand's legacy of using high-quality ingredients without artificial additives.
