Philips electronics and health technology

Philips, officially known as Koninklijke Philips N.V., is a prominent Dutch multinational that has evolved significantly since its founding in 1891. Originally a lighting company, it grew into one of the world's largest electronics conglomerates, responsible for inventing global standards like the Compact Cassette and the CD. In recent decades, the company has undergone a massive strategic shift, divesting its legacy lighting (Signify) and home appliance (Versuni) divisions to focus almost exclusively on health technology.

Today, the manufacturing of Philips-branded products is highly distributed. Medical equipment is often produced in specialized facilities in the Netherlands, the United States, and Germany. Personal care items like electric shavers and toothbrushes are manufactured in the Netherlands and China, while TVs and home appliances bearing the Philips name are produced under license by third-party companies like TP Vision in Poland and Hillhouse Capital's Versuni in China and various other global locations. This global manufacturing footprint allows the brand to maintain a presence in over 100 countries while optimizing for specialized technical production.
