Rademaker Hopjes are a quintessentially Dutch coffee-flavored candy with a history dating back to the late 18th century. The candy was famously inspired by Baron Hendrik Hop, a Dutch diplomat who accidentally created the flavor by leaving a cup of coffee with cream and sugar on a heater. While the recipe was traditionally Dutch and produced in the Netherlands for centuries, the brand is currently owned by the Swedish confectionery giant Cloetta.

In early 2025, it was announced that production of the classic square Rademaker Hopjes would cease due to declining demand. Interestingly, although the brand has deep Dutch roots, the manufacturing had already been shifted to Cloetta's facilities in Italy prior to the discontinuation announcement. While the classic red-tinned square version is being phased out, similar variants like the 'Holland Hopje' continue to be available in other formats, maintaining the legacy of Baron Hop's accidental discovery.
