The Lounges is a prominent British hospitality brand operated by Loungers plc. Established in 2002 by friends Alex Reilley, Jake Bishop, and Dave Reid, the brand began with a single location in Bristol called 'Lounge.' It was designed to offer a unique 'home from home' atmosphere, blending the informal culture of a coffee shop with the community feel of a British pub and the menu of a casual dining restaurant. The concept quickly resonated with the public, leading to rapid expansion across high streets and suburban areas throughout England and Wales.

While the brand remains quintessentially British in its origins and operations, its ownership underwent a significant transition in early 2025. Following years of growth as a publicly traded company on the London Stock Exchange, Loungers plc was acquired by Fortress Investment Group, a major American investment firm. This acquisition, valued at approximately £366 million, was aimed at fueling further expansion of The Lounges alongside its sister brands, Cosy Club and Brightside. Despite the change to American ultimate ownership, the brand's management and operational headquarters remain firmly rooted in Bristol, United Kingdom.
