Digi is one of Malaysia's leading mobile service providers, recognized for pioneering the cellular market in the region since the mid-1990s. Originally established as Mutiara Telecommunications, it became the first in the country to launch a fully digital cellular network. The brand's journey is a significant part of Southeast Asia's digital infrastructure development.

In late 2022 and early 2023, Digi Telecommunications completed a historic merger with Celcom, another major Malaysian provider, forming CelcomDigi Berhad. The ownership structure of CelcomDigi is shared primarily between the Norwegian multinational Telenor Group and the Malaysian institutional investor Axiata Group. This partnership combines Nordic technological expertise with local Malaysian market leadership, ensuring that the legacy of the Digi brand remains a central pillar of Malaysia's telecommunications landscape.
