Orbit is one of the world's most recognizable brands of sugar-free chewing gum. The brand name itself dates back to the late 19th century, specifically 1899, but it became a staple of the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company's portfolio during World War II. At that time, it was introduced as a replacement for Wrigley's flagship brands like Spearmint and Juicy Fruit because the ingredients for those premium gums were being rationed for the military. After the war, Orbit was briefly discontinued but made a significant comeback in 1976 as the company's first sugar-free offering, initially launching in European markets before returning to the United States in 2001.
Today, the brand is owned by Mars, Incorporated, following its massive $23 billion acquisition of the Wrigley Company in 2008. The product shown in the image is 'Orbit Fresa' (Strawberry flavor), which is part of their international lineup. While Mars Wrigley operates 21 production facilities across 14 countries, much of the sugar-free gum for the European and global markets has historically been manufactured at their specialized plant in Poznań, Poland. Recently, the company has also expanded local production to other regions, such as Kenya, to serve specific continental markets. As a privately held family business headquartered in McLean, Virginia, Mars continues to manage Orbit as a flagship brand under its Mars Snacking division.
