Rügenwalder Mühle is a highly recognized German food brand with a history dating back to 1834, when it was founded by Carl Müller in Rügenwalde, Pomerania. The company moved its headquarters to Bad Zwischenahn, Lower Saxony, following World War II. While it built its legacy on traditional meat products like the Teewurst (a smoked raw sausage spread) shown in the image, the brand has transformed significantly in recent years.

In 2021, the company famously generated more revenue from its plant-based meat alternatives than from its traditional meat products. A major shift in ownership occurred in late 2023 when the Pfeifer & Langen Industrie und Handels-KG, a large German food conglomerate primarily known for sugar production (Diamant Zucker), acquired a majority stake in Rügenwalder Mühle. This acquisition, which was cleared by competition authorities in early 2024, aims to strengthen the brand's position in the expanding plant-based market across Europe while maintaining its manufacturing base in Germany.
