McDonald's McFlurry

The McFlurry is a signature frozen dessert brand owned and sold by the American fast-food giant McDonald's. It consists of whipped vanilla soft-serve ice cream blended with various candy or cookie mix-ins using a uniquely designed hollow spoon that doubles as a mixing blade.

Though McDonald's is an American company, the McFlurry actually has Canadian roots. It was invented in 1995 by Ron McLellan, a McDonald's franchisee in Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada. Following its massive local success, it was introduced to the United States in 1997 and has since become a global staple available in over 100 countries.

Manufacturing of the McFlurry occurs locally within each restaurant using specialized soft-serve machines (often manufactured by companies like Taylor). The liquid ice cream base and the various mix-ins (such as Oreo, M&M's, or KitKat) are typically sourced from regional dairy suppliers and food processors approved by the McDonald's Corporation to ensure consistent quality across different markets.
