The brand was established in 1949 by Erwin Müller in Lingen, Germany, initially as a division of the Erwin Müller Group (now known as the emco Group). Novus quickly gained a reputation for innovation, introducing the world's first fully encased stapler in 1953, a design so effective that its core principles are still utilized in modern executive staplers.

Today, the brand operates under Novus Dahle GmbH, which was formed in 2012 when the Erwin Müller Group merged its Novus and Dahle brands to leverage their combined expertise in office supplies and cutting equipment.
