Diddl is a beloved German cartoon character created by illustrator Thomas Goletz in 1990. Originally appearing on a series of postcards, the character—a 'Jerboa' or jumping mouse with oversized ears and feet—exploded in popularity across Europe during the 1990s and early 2000s. The brand became a cultural phenomenon, especially in Germany, France, and Benelux, leading to a massive range of merchandise including stationery, plush toys, and kitchenware like the mug pictured.

The featured mug depicts Diddlina, Diddl's girlfriend, recognizable by her signature purple polka-dot bow. After a period of decline and the cessation of production around 2014, the brand has seen a modern resurgence. As of late 2025 and moving into 2026, the brand is undergoing a major comeback spearheaded by the French distributor Kontiki, which has partnered with the original creator to release new 'Diddl is Back' collections targeting both nostalgic adults and a new generation of children.
