Kasztelan unpasteurized beer

Kasztelan is a traditional Polish beer brand with a heritage that traces back to the 14th century in the town of Sierpc. The modern iteration of the brand began in 1972 with the establishment of the Sierpc Brewery, which initially specialized in unpasteurized beers to serve the local market's preferences. The term 'Kasztelan' refers to a castellan, a historical governor or official in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, reflecting the brand's connection to regional history and status.

In the early 2000s, the brand underwent significant corporate transitions. It was briefly owned by the German Bitburger group before being merged into the Carlsberg Polska portfolio in 2005. Since then, it has grown from a regional favorite into one of Poland's most recognizable national beer brands, particularly noted for its unpasteurized (niepasteryzowane) variety which popularized the style in the mainstream Polish market.

Today, Kasztelan continues to be brewed primarily at the Sierpc Brewery in Poland, which remains one of the few facilities in the country where barley is malted and beer is brewed in the same location. The brand is now part of the global portfolio of the Carlsberg Group, a leading international brewer based in Denmark.
