ColaCao is an iconic Spanish brand of chocolate drink powder, first introduced in 1946 by José María Ventura and José Ignacio Ferrero in the Gràcia neighborhood of Barcelona. The product is famous for its 'grumitos' (small lumps of cocoa) which result from its natural cocoa processing without chemical additives. Historically, it became deeply embedded in Spanish culture through its famous radio advertisements and long-standing sponsorship of the Spanish Olympic team through the ADO program.
Currently, the brand is owned by Idilia Foods, a company formed following the 2015 split of the Nutrexpa group. While the company moved its corporate headquarters to Valencia in 2017, its primary production and operational base remains in Catalonia. The product is manufactured in Spain, specifically at their specialized production facilities, and is exported to various international markets. In 2024, Idilia Foods further expanded its influence in the Spanish dairy market by acquiring a 50% stake in the famous milkshake brand Cacaolat.
