Pacifico Clara beer

Pacifico Clara, commonly known as Pacifico, is a renowned Mexican pilsner-style lager that traces its origins back to the turn of the 20th century. It was first brewed in 1900 in the coastal city of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, by three German immigrants: Jorge Claussen, Germán Evers, and Emilio Radostits. The brand's identity is deeply tied to its maritime heritage, featuring a label that depicts a lifesaver and an anchor against the backdrop of the Mazatlán lighthouse.

The brand gained significant international traction in the 1970s when California surfers discovered the beer during their trips to Baja California and began importing it into the United States. This "discovered in Baja" narrative has since become a cornerstone of its marketing. Today, the beer is still primarily brewed in Mexico to maintain its authentic flavor profile.

Ownership of the brand is split due to antitrust regulations. Historically, the brewery was acquired by the Mexican brewing giant Grupo Modelo in 1954. When Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) acquired Grupo Modelo in 2013, the U.S. Department of Justice required the divestiture of the U.S. business to prevent a monopoly. Consequently, Constellation Brands owns the exclusive rights to produce and market Pacifico in the United States, while AB InBev retains ownership for the rest of the global market.
